Aqua Dragons, part of the Aqua Passport Learn to Swim scheme, is a program that engages children and helps them learn to swim and develop good survival skills while playing games and collecting trophies.

Aqua Passport is a Welsh Learn to Swim scheme that uses advanced interactive digital solutions to make it easy for children to become competent swimmers. Developed by Swim Wales and Sport Wales and supported by the Welsh government, the innovative scheme teaches children basic skills and techniques by engaging them in the imaginary world of Aqua Dragons and rewarding them with trophies, badges, and certificates when they achieve specific goals.

Children can log into their personal account on the website, where they can access the fun aquatic world to play games and see their achievements in the pool displayed as trophies. The fun, interactive elements keep children motivated to improve their skills, boosting retention rates in swimming programs.

During the lessons, swimming teachers record children’s achievements on a tablet. Children and their parents can later log into the Aqua Passport website to see the progress they have made. There are multiple reports available to provide administrators with data on every child’s progress, how fast they are progressing, and any potential issues. The reports also cover the swimming teacher’s performance and can help improve the overall quality of the swimming lessons. Parents can log into the website to see how their child is doing and to watch videos of every skill taught in the pool.

Aqua Passport is divided into three sections: Splash, Wave, and Skills. Splash is a program designed for babies and toddlers, themed around Aqua Dragons, that helps children aged 3 and younger and their parents develop confidence in the water. The Wave program teaches children aged 4 and older how to swim. During the program, kids can collect eight Wave awards, each associated with a specific Aqua Dragon. The Skills section covers a wide range of skills, including personal survival, advanced swimming, water polo, and diving.

Aqua Passport’s aim is to improve the learning experience for children, parents, educators, and swim schools, and to teach kids personal survival skills and help them understand the fundamentals of water safety. The scheme can revolutionise any existing swimming program and help recruit new members.
