Atari will launch Atari Fit, a new gamified fitness app for mobile devices, later this month.

Gaming giant Atari has announced the launch of Atari Fit, a new gamified fitness app that will be available to mobile users later this month. The app is designed to motivate users to work out by themselves or with friends while collecting points to unlock games like Centipede, Pong, Super Breakout, and other Atari classics. Atari Fit is the first fitness gaming app to reward users with gameplay for being active.

The new app will be compatible with RunKeeper, FitBit, and a number of other popular wearable fitness devices, and include a variety of social features. It will aggregate data from Google Health and many other widely used fitness and health apps to make it easy for users to track all their fitness stats in a single mobile app. Atari Fit itself will allow users to track their speed, distance, time, pace and calories burned while exercising.

To develop safe, effective fitness routines, Atari collaborated with certified personal trainer and performance enhancement specialist Michael Porter through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). The new fitness app will deliver more than 150 exercises, including running programs, custom workouts, and full-body circuit training sessions. The exercise programs and features available with Atari Fit were designed for people of any fitness level, from beginners to experienced athletes.

Atari Fit features include gamified workouts, which motivate users with daily tips and a varied range of exercise routines and difficulty levels, and the multiplayer mode, which allows users to exercise with their friends anywhere in the world, to compete against them, and join teams. The Atari classic games available with the app will feature online leaderboards where users will be able to rank their performance against other users around the world. The app will also allow users to post updates to their social media profiles on Twitter and Facebook after every workout.

Atari Fit was developed in collaboration with 8BitFit, a company specialising in the gamification of fitness, and the award-winning development studio Gametheory.
