Blast Motion has launched its first product, Blast Baseball. The system uses advanced motion sensors to offer users new ways to track their performance and share their experience with friends.

Blast Motion, the developer of innovative motion capture technologies, has announced the launch of Blast Baseball, the company's first product. Blast Baseball was created in collaboration with STMicroelectronics, a company specialising in electronics applications and semiconductors. The system uses ST's cutting edge MEMS process technology to deliver an entirely new experience to users.

Blast Baseball provides users with information about the mechanics of their swing, it suggests adjustments to improve their performance, and gives them a new way to share their successes with friends.

The Blast Precision Motion Sensor weighs less than an ounce and can be attached to the end of any baseball bat. The sensor is waterproof, dustproof and shockproof. The tracking system is extremely accurate, and can even detect the difference between a practice swing and a real hit. It can analyse the user's swing and transmit it to an iPad or iPhone using Bluetooth. Meanwhile, Smart Video Capture lets users analyse, compare and share their accomplishments with friends. They can capture video, track and store their swings, and post the highlights on social networks.

Roger Weingarth, President and COO of Blast, said, "Essentially invisible, Blast Baseball lets players focus on the game without changing their natural swing and provides access to important metrics when they want them. It is important to us that Blast Baseball not only track key metrics, but give users new ways to interact with the data. They can track and learn about their swings, compare metrics and easily share this information with coaches and friends. Our continued collaboration with ST will keep Blast's products extremely useful and technically innovative."

Luca Difalco, VP of Marketing at STMicroelectronics' Americas Region, added, "ST's IoT and Wearable strategy aligns perfectly with Blast's vision in sports equipment and our large portfolio of motion sensors, delivering the optimal combination of sensors to generate the best results for the Blast Baseball product. Combining pioneering use of ST's precision motion-detection technology with user-friendly and well-conceived app will change the way people can experience the world."

The launch of Blast Baseball marks only the beginning of Blast Motion's product line. The system includes the Precision Motion Sensor, a bat attachment, and the Blast Baseball App for $149,99.
