Fit Interactive was acquired by Illinois-based company Excel Equipment earlier this month.

Excel Equipment has announced the acquisition of interactive fitness product developer Fit Interactive. The two companies previously had a successful business relationship for several years and the acquisition was announced in early May. Based in Elk Grove, Illinois, Excel Equipment is a subsidiary of Excel Electro Assembly, a supplier of electro-mechanical assemblies, and partner to Exergame Fitness, a global leader in interactive fitness and leading distributor of Fit Interactive solutions.

John and Michaela Salvitti, previous owners of Fit Interactive, helmed the company since 2009, pioneering innovative interactive fitness solutions that delivered a fun, engaging and motivating alternative to traditional exercise. The pair had previously led Strive Enterprises, a successful manufacturer and distributor of commercial fitness equipment.

"After more than 17 years in fitness equipment business, it was bittersweet to let go of our Fit Interactive products. I am proud of the hard work and the success we had pioneering such an innovative product line, but the time was right to hand it off,” said Michaela Salvitti. “I know Excel is committed to the highest level of quality and service, as I had the luxury to work with them for past few years as our customer. I feel great comfort knowing that the customer and dealer relationships that we worked so hard to build will be well taken care of, and that was very important to both me and John."

"I am confident with what Excel will do with the Fit Interactive technologies,” added John Salvitti. “They will service and grow our loyal customer base and continue to build the brand. Even more importantly, I expect them to develop and acquire additional technologies and bring new solutions to this critical segment of the fitness industry."

The acquisition of Fit Interactive expands Excel Equipment's interest in ownership of health clubs, as Fit Interactive products offer users a new, exciting way to get fit while competing and having fun with their friends. The products include JumpQ, an interactive jumping game that uses plyometrics to enhance players' strength and endurance, 3 Kick, a reaction trainer that helps develop users' speed and agility, HeavyBall, a game that uses medicine balls to deliver an intense strength and cardio workout, and Battle Station, a combination of the three games with additional features that enhance the fitness experience.

"Fit Interactive Products are top quality product, it's a great combination of technology and game that makes fitness fun which will continue to revolutionize both youth and adult fitness programming,” said Trushar Patel, Vice President of Excel Equipment. “For Excel, it made perfect sense to purchase the Fit Interactive products, since our partner company Exergame Fitness has been largest distributor of these products. We hope to take the products and its sales to next level."
