Nike has teamed up with Samsung to create and preinstall the Nike+ Running app on Samsung's Gear S smartwatch.

Nike has expanded the reach of the Nike+ brand by partnering with Samsung to create the Nike+ Running app for Samsung's newest smartwatch, the Gear S. The application is available for most Android devices through Google Play, but Samsung's latest model does not have access to Google's online store. With the new partnership, Gear S users will be able to benefit from Nike's platform and all its features. The app will be preinstalled on the device and the package will hit the market in October.

Nike+ Running, which can track users' runs and let them plan their routes using the watch's integrated GPS and multi-sensors, is one of the applications that allow users to earn NikeFuel points during their workouts. Along with accumulating NikeFuel, users can easily access the data on heart rate, distance travelled, and pace. The app also offers fun motivational features like Nike+ Coach and Nike+ Challenges, and lets users select their PowerSong.

NikeFuel is a unique system of measuring fitness activity that translates data from wearable devices, games, or GPS tracking services into a universal system of points earned for physical activity. The system is unique to the Nike+ brand and all the products under the brand use it. Along with the Nike+ Running app, these products include the Nike+ FuelBand accelerometer wristband, SportWatch and SportBand wristbands, the Nike+ Move app for the iPhone 5S, the Nike+ iPod activity tracker, the Nike+ Kinect Training exercise game for the Xbox, and Nike+ Basketball mobile application.

The Nike+ FuelBand uses NikeFuel to track users' activity and provides users with real time feedback, motivational reminders, and insight into how much, how often, and how intensely they move. Users can set daily goals and keep track of their progress on the FuelBand itself. They can also upload the NikeFuel they have earned to their free Nike+ account and track their trends as they become more active over time.

Nike introduced the NikeFuel point system as a universal way to measure movement across different activities and to motivate fitness enthusiasts and athletes to reach their true potential. The idea behind NikeFuel was to create a common language of movement which would provide athletes with data to help them improve. The platform combines coaching, training, analytics, games, and social features to provide users with more compelling options as they train to reach their goals.

To further refine and evolve the system, the company launched the Nike+ Fuel Lab in San Francisco in April. The lab's mission is to continue adding value to existing Nike+ users and reach new ones through partnerships with leading fitness brands including Strava, RunKeeper, and MyFitnessPal.
