Armotion Robotic Trainer Offers Effective, Game-Based Upper Limb Rehabilitation

The Armotion is a mobile, autonomous robotic trainer designed for the rehabilitation of upper limbs.

Developed by the Swiss company Reha Technology, the device offers a wide range of highly effective functional exercises to maximise orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation. The exercises are game-based and provide patients with real-time feedback to motivate them and keep them engaged. The device also offers the possibility of home-based therapy with patient performance monitoring.

Launched in July 2014, the innovative robotic solution was designed to assist with the treatment of severe and moderate neuromuscular dysfuction of the upper limbs. The therapeutic exercises improve the patient's ability to perform routine domestic tasks by rebuilding functional ability and the necessary skills.

The Armotion uses unique force feedback and force multiplier features which can detect and respond to the patient's movements, enhancing the effectiveness of each therapy session. The device offers passive and active-assistive therapy options and improves the patient's cognitive ability through multiple interactive games and intensive, repetitive exercises. The passive options allow early stage patients to safely learn shoulder and elbow motions, while the active-assistive mode enhances the therapy sesions by challenging the patient's cognitive skills in memory and sequencing along with improving his or her movement and strength.
