Gait Trainer Helps Stroke Patients Improve Gait Adaptability

Gait Trainer Helps Stroke Patients Improve Gait Adaptability image: MOTEK MEDICAL

The gait adaptability trainer, an application developed by Motek Medical for use on the company’s treadmill-based systems, uses an interactive game, Microbes, to help stroke patients and people suffering from orthopaedic disorders increase their gait adaptability.

The patients are asked to control a microbe and evolve as much as possible as they walk through a germ-infested virtual environment and perform a series of therapeutic exercises. The exercises include target-steps, avoiding obstacles, slowing down, and speeding up. As the patient progresses through the game, the exercises become progressively more challenging. The difficulty level automatically adapts to the user, which makes the trainer easy to use with a larger group of patients.
