SisyFox is a unique interactive solution that gamifies the myth of Sisyphus to develop a wide range of physical and cognitive skills.
SisyFox, an interactive installation that uses multimedia interplay to develop cognitive, physical and neurological skills, trains players' visual and motor control, balance, speed, endurance and muscle coordination by challenging them to roll a large rocky ball up a virtual mountain.
The game was inspired by the Greek myth of Sisyphus, who was punished by the gods for his deceitfulness by being forced to roll a large boulder up a mountain only to see it come back to hit him over and over again for eternity. Similarly, SisyFox challenges players to roll a large gymnastic ball up a mountain while trying to avoid obstacles. Players use a real ball, mounted on sensors, to experience the multidimensional effects of the game. The ball serves as the link between the real world and the digital one, offering dynamic rolling resistance to fully immerse players in the effort.
SisyFox gamifies failure in order to build stamina and perseverance while simultaneously training various movement sequences by stimulating the arm, shoulder and trunk muscles. The skills required to roll the ball to the top of the mountain correspond to those trained in preventive, curative and rehabilitative therapy. The game can be used to train the arm and shoulder, as well as to help treat cervical and thoracic syndromes, and to improve patients’ visual motor and psychomotor skills. SisyFox can easily engage patients in the treatment process and, unlike traditional physical therapy, it provides long-term motivation to encourage patients to complete their therapy programs.
SisyFox offers different gameplay options to stimulate players' interest and help them forget the pain of exercising. The game also has different difficulty levels that can be adapted to players' age and ability. The virtual world displayed on the screen delivers an immersive experience with such effects as wind, fog, snow, light and sound.
