The Chicago Bulls/White Sox Training Academy, established in 2001 as the only year-round training facility for aspiring young baseball and basketball players in the U.S., provides training, private lessons, clinics, and camps to thousands of children every year. The Academy’s mission is to create a safe, motivating, fun environment for children aged 5 to 18, where kids can learn new skills and develop self-esteem and confidence. The Academy runs extensive training programs in baseball, fastpitch softball, and basketball using the Chicago Bulls and White Sox brands to introduce children to positive role models and encourage healthy, active lifestyles. The facility offers beginner, intermediate, and high level training.
The Bulls/Sox Academy uses training methods and philosophies of the two Chicago-based teams – the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox – and has a coaching staff of former professional players and coaches who have learned directly from the two teams’ coaching staffs. The Academy is owned by both teams and is the only training facility in the continental USA owned by either an NBA or MLB team. All the programs at the Academy are focused on maximising children’s athletic potential and teaching them a few life lessons in the process. The concept originated in 1994, when the Chicago White Sox launched a program designed specifically for children.
Among its other offerings, the Academy uses interactive fitness solutions to provide children with an unparalleled fitness education in the country. Children don’t only develop movement skills and improve their physical fitness, but also learn about communication and decision making, health and human body systems, and teamwork.
The third floor of the Bulls/Sox Academy in Lisle has been transformed into a unique exergaming environment, called The Vault, with some of the most innovative, high-tech arcade games and interactive solutions available both for training and for kids to celebrate their birthdays and have fun with their friends. The Vault offers popular interactive products like the Makoto Sports Arena, Trazer, the Freedom Climber, the Lightspace Floor and Wall, the Cobalt Flux dance pad, Treadwall, the Gamercize stepper, Railyard Fitness, Expresso Fitness, GameCycle, SoundTube, HopSports, XaviX, the NASCAR Unleashed arcade racing game, the Jump Zone multiplayer game, and MX vs. ATV Alive, a competitive motocross racing game.
The Bulls/Sox Academy opened The Vault in 2011 in partnership with Motion Fitness, a leading distributor of exergaming solutions. The Vault is part of the Academy’s anti-obesity initiative, giving kids the chance to be physically active while enjoying themselves and playing video games. The interactive games were added to the facility to appeal to children and encourage them to move by using the power of play and the new technologies that kids love. The virtual games emphasize movement and help kids develop speed and coordination, and improve balance, agility, and reaction time while socialising, competing, and learning to work together.
The Bulls/Sox Academy is based in Lisle, Illinois, with satellite locations in Glen Ellyn and LaGrange.
