IPA Stands up for the Child’s Right to Play

The International Play Association (IPA) launched a new website this week to support and promote the understanding of Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), just in time for Universal Children’s Day.

The association included a new video, “This Is Me,” for the launch, to explain the importance of the adoption of the General Comment on Article 31 in February. The General Comment clearly defines governments’ responsibilities to recognise the right of the child to rest, leisure, play, and recreational activities, and stresses the importance of Article 31 for children’s development, health, and well-being. IPA was at the helm of an international group of cosignatories to the request for a General Comment since 2008.

The footage for the video was provided by a number of international organisations, including the Playright Children's Play Association (Hong Kong), Invisible Children (Uganda, Congo), iActivism (Chad), Active Living Association (Istanbul, Turkey), and Imba Means Sing! (Uganda).
