Icaros is a new fitness gaming device that combines sports equipment with virtual reality technology and game simulation to deliver a unique flying experience that challenges both the body and the mind.

Icaros, an interactive flying simulator developed by the German company Hyve, is a highly innovative fitness device that uses virtual reality technology to offer users a truly unique full-body workout. Icaros is both a fitness device and a game controller, allowing users to experience a simulated virtual world using virtual reality goggles and to control their flight path with nothing but their movements. The device itself can be used both as a gaming system and as sports equipment, as it requires a considerable amount of effort from the player and stimulates several different muscle groups. The flight itself is displayed on virtual reality headsets.

Icaros allows users to fly or dive through virtual reality worlds while training different muscle groups – shoulders, chest, neck, triceps, lateral abdominal muscles, quads and calves – and simultaneously improving their reflexes, balance and concentration through an intense level of muscle stimulation. The training intensity itself is adjustable. The device follows users' movements as they shift their weight to the front, back, left or right, and the degree to which the machine tilts in different directions can be adjusted. Beginners can choose a low inclination angle, while advanced users can go for the more challenging options.

The first game available with the Icaros simulates a fast flight through a mountain valley and the device will eventually let users discover space, fly through the perfect wave and experience a number of other exciting flying and diving adventures made possible by VR technology.

Other than the VR headset and the device itself, Icaros requires a computer and a smartphone. The simulator uses the phone's accelerometers to measure users' movements and then sends the information to the Icaros game.
