Praxtour, the Dutch maker of indoor cycling equipment, presented its range of virtual exercise bikes at the 2013 Leisure Industry Week in Birmingham.

Praxtour introduced its range of virtual indoor bikes to the UK market at the 2013 Leisure Industry Week (LIW), which took place in Birmingham in late September. The Dutch company, known for its VirtuReal Cycling software and indoor cycling equipment, presented its four models of virtual bikes: the Praxtour Course, the Cruise, the CTR, and the Classic.

Praxtour’s virtual indoor bikes provide realistic virtual rides, both visually and physically, allowing fitness enthusiasts to have an intense workout or simply enjoy a recreational ride at a number of different locations across Europe, from mountain tops and cliffs to easy rides along rivers and other scenic locations. Praxtour’s exercise bikes are ergonomically correct and designed to simulate the experience of real racing bikes.

Praxtour’s CTR model is the world’s most realistic racing simulator, with features like sideward tilt, forward and backward motion, and speed dependent wind. The bike also simulates ascents and descents and has resistance that adjusts automatically. It has triple/10 speed Shimano electronic shifters, 3-in-1 combination pedals, and a comfortable gel saddle, among other features.

The Praxtour Cruise is designed for rehabilitation and recreation. Also providing a realistic cycling experience, the bike has active resistance, one that automatically adapts to the road profile, gears with 16 rotary positions, adjustable seat and steering position, and different difficulty levels, which can be adjusted to suit seniors and those looking to use the bike for rehabilitation.

The Praxtour Course is designed for athletes and has the same size and position as a real racing bike. Like the other models, it comes with Virtual RealCycling software, which is pretty easy to use. Onscreen display includes information about time, gear, speed, driving distance, resistance, climbing rate, wattage, cadence, pulse, and calories burned.

The Praxtour Classic allows you to experience the virtual routes on your own bike, which you can easily mount on the Classic after removing the rear wheel. Rubber caps allow a sight tilt to the left and right and the model includes a rear cassette matching your bike. The software and route films are also included. The Classic is the fourth and latest model launched by Praxtour. It was first announced in October.

All Praxtour bikes except the Classic come with a 23’’ touch screen, software, and six route films. The CTR model comes with as many as 12 route films for virtual cyclers to enjoy.

For those looking to add even more diversity to their cycling experience, Praxtour offers more than 40 route films, which can be bought separately or in boxes of six. The HQ widescreen route films available with the bikes provide the experience of a real-time ride as they follow the pedalling speed; the faster you ride, the faster the films play. When you stop pedalling, the film stops with you and if you take a break for more than 10 minutes, the training session ends.

Some of the virtual cycling routes available for Praxtour bikes are Alpe d’Huez, Mont Ventoux, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Galibier, Gorges de l’Ardeche, Gorges de la Nesque, Holterberg, Posbank, Moselweinstraße, and Windmillroute Kinderdijk. The company is constantly adding new routes to its library.
