Morgan Stanley has announced the launch of Healthy Cities, a new philanthropy initiative that will integrate and coordinate active play, wellness and nutrition resources for children.

Global financial services company Morgan Stanley has announced the launch of Healthy Cities, a new health program aiming to fuel innovation in integrating nutrition, wellness and play resources that can help children get a healthy start in life. Healthy Cities is designed to bring together all the building blocks that can play a significant role in children’s capacity to reach their full potential. Research in recent years has shown that consistent access to these factors can indeed make a huge difference. Morgan Stanley and its non-profit partners will be piloting programs that address the needs of individual neighbourhoods to give children a chance to develop, learn and excel.

Morgan Stanley will team up with non-profit organisations including KaBOOM! and Feeding America and connect local charities to integrate separate health programs and initiatives and deliver a single package of wellness education, health screenings, healthy meals, and safe play areas for children living in neighbourhoods in need. Healthy Cities is launching in Chicago today and will be introduced in two other cities this summer.

In Chicago, the Healthy Cities program will deliver health screenings for more than 800 families, 365,000 healthy meals, regular fitness programs for more than 700 students, nutrition education, and safe play areas for 1,000 children.

"Whether we are working with clients or communities, Morgan Stanley is consistently looking for innovative ways to improve results,” said James Gorman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley. “Through Healthy Cities, we and our partners will test new models to help children get the healthy start they need for lifelong achievement. We hope the learnings from these initiatives can benefit other communities and organizations looking to integrate programs for added impact."

"Balanced and active play makes kids healthier and happier and helps kids learn,” said Darell Hammond, founder and CEO of KaBOOM! “We look forward to working once again with Morgan Stanley and their dedicated volunteers to create play spaces that will become cornerstones for the community. Healthy Cities is an exciting program and a terrific opportunity for our organization to provide the benefits of great places to play to the overall health and well-being of our kids and our communities."
